What is a knit?

I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to learn to knit. I bought a few needles and some yarn and a book with pictures........what more could a person ask for? To understand the directions would be nice, or to understand the pictures would be even better. Lordy, did I open a bucket of worms with this little attempt. I wanted to learn to knit before I died just so I could say I knew how. Well, now I can honestly say I can knit and purl and that is about it. It is all of those sneaky directions such as S2KP or ppo, or M1. Does that make sense to you? With my memory which is about as good as a roadkill is alive I just don't grasp those silly initials. I actually should be knitting a sweater by know, if effort was what it should be.
When my grand daughter visited she wanted me to teach her to knit. I handed her a pair of needles, a ball of yarn and a book with pictures..........go get them killer! After a day of messing with her yarn she knits better than I do after 3 weeks............is something wrong with this scenario???
I am so relieved. I am finally thru at the dentist. That was a bunch of money exchanging hands and I have a dandy smile and really nice looking teeth. I suppose it is worth it since I can gnaw corn off a cob with my dignity in tact.
It is finally summer! We reached our first 100% day this week and I am glad to see it happen. I enjoyed our cook spring right up till July and was getting worried that I would start demanding that beautiful weather year round.
My art has taken a back seat to learning to knit so I haven't made anything new. I do so enjoy messing with paper and glue and would love to have the endurance to be able to enjoy both knitting and papering at the same time. Alas, I just can't do it. And I take my one a days too!
Little green apples and bird houses are in the mix this week. Enjoy!

  1. Lol, your knitting sounds like quite an adventure. My sister wanted to start trying to knit again last time I visited her. I'll bet she hasn't added two rows to the afghan since I left. Sometimes something intrigues us but we just don't quite have the desire to push our way through. Or, you are trying too hard. There really are only the knit and purl stitches and loads of variations. I tend to stick with simple myself. I haven't made a sweater in years. My gauge never matches what is called for so I have to come up with my own patterns. Right now I'd rather paint and draw. We are kind of at opposite ends aren't we?

We hit 103 today. It's our hottest day yet but tomorrow might top it. I really don't do well with hot so I'm staying in the air-conditioned house except to water the trees.
